Daniel Curry, of Wolf Haven International, climbs into a wolf den to retrieve Mexican gray wolf pups at the Tenino, Wash. breeding and pre-release facility for the endangered species.
Tami Williams, conservation specialist with Wolf Haven for the last 10 years, explained that the wolves are bred in captivity and, through the federal Species Survival Project, could eventually be released into the wild in Arizona. The pack, living on a fenced one-acre parcel within the Tenino reservation, consists of a mother and father, four yearling wolves, and the four cubs.
Daniel Curry, of Wolf Haven International, carries a female Mexican gray wolf during a "catch-up" of pups for inoculations and determination of sex.
